The Detroit Council for World Affairs (DCWA) will host Edward Peck, former Ambassador to Iraq, on Sept. 11, 2007 at 6:30 pm at Wayne State University’s Welcome Center, located at 42 West Warren Avenue, in Detroit.
Ambassador Peck will lead a discussion on “provoking thought not people." He is a former Ambassador to Iraq and Mauritania and is a lively and provocative speaker. He has been a guest on most major television networks and radio stations nationwide. A reception is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. followed by a discussion at 6:30. Ambassador Peck is the former US Ambassador to Iraq
He has served as an American diplomat for 32 years and speaks four languages. This former paratrooper in the US Army was the Chief of Mission in Iraq from 1977 to 1980. He was also an Embassy officer in Sweden, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt and a Chief of Mission in Mauritania. His domestic assignments included Deputy Director of the Cabinet Task Force on Terrorism at the White House, Deputy Coordinator for Covert Intelligence Programs and Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs at the State Department, Liaison Officer to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Fellow at the Institute for Higher Defense Studies at the Pentagon.
