Alumni Communications Honored by IABC, APEX

DETROIT – The Wayne State University Alumni Association’s print and electronic communications, including its magazine, Web site and online community, were honored in June by two separate communications organizations.

Wayne State magazine, an exclusive benefit for alumni association members, received an Award of Honor from the International Association of Business Communicators Detroit chapter. It is the third consecutive year the magazine has been recognized by the organization.

Both the alumni association’s Web site, www.alumni.wayne.edu, and its new online community, W3, received an Award of Excellence for “Most Improved Web and Intranet” by Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX), a national organization recognizing excellence in publications work by professional communicators.

The magazine’s staff includes Marguerite Rigby, publisher, of Farmington Hills; Michelle Franzen Martin, editor, of Grosse Pointe Woods; Sarah Freeman, managing editor, of St. Clair Shores; and Margaret Kelly, art director, of Grosse Pointe.

The Web site redesign and online community were redesigned by Bill Costello and Vinay Pallegar of Costello Design Group in Grosse Pointe Park, who worked with Rigby, Martin and Freeman to complete the designs.

The Wayne State University Alumni Association has been building loyalty and support among alumni for more than 70 years. No matter where they are in life or in the world, alumni association members stay connected through special events, personal and professional development, exclusive discounts, member-only publications and many other benefits.
