A growing number of parents has turned away from traditional public schools, according to a poll released Tuesday. A combined 12 percent of parents said they now home-school or send their children to charters, compared to 3 percent in a March 2005 poll. Wood says that Michigan's public schools have been improving over the last four years, with more meeting federal goals.
