Alumni Lecture Highlights Detroit Economic Growth

Detroit Renaissance President Doug Rothwell and Strategic Staffing Solutions CEO Cynthia Pasky will speak during the Wayne State University Alumni Association’s Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series on April 5.

The lecture begins at noon in Alumni House, 441 Ferry Mall, on Wayne State’s main campus.

The discussion will focus on Detroit Renaissance’s plan, The Road to Renaissance: a Collaborative Strategy for Regional Economic Growth, which involves helping Detroit become a global logistics hub, expanding the metro area’s creative community and securing a strong future talent base.

“The Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series is one of the many ways the alumni association offers alumni and friends the opportunity to reconnect with the university while gaining new insights,” says alumni association Executive Director Marguerite Rigby. “This particular lecture is especially relevant given the recent dialogue about the issues facing Michigan and metro Detroit’s economy.”

The lecture is free, but reservations are required. It is held as a brown-bag lunch program; boxed lunches are available for $6 each. Reservations can be made at www.alumni.wayne.edu/events or (313) 577-2166.

The Urban Perspectives Lecture Series began in 1992, and was named by the alumni association in 1995 to honor civil rights leader Arthur L. Johnson upon his retirement as vice president for university relations at Wayne State University. Recent speakers have included Edsel Ford II, a member of the Ford Motor Co. board of directors; David DiChiera, founder/director of the Michigan Opera Theatre; and Lerone Bennett Jr., executive editor of Ebony magazine.

The Wayne State University Alumni Association has been building loyalty and support among alumni for more than 70 years. No matter where they are in life or in the world, alumni association members stay connected through special events, personal and professional development, exclusive discounts, member-only publications and many other benefits.
