On Thursday, March 29, 2007, the Hilberry Theatre will host “The College of Education Open House” for faculty, staff and students of the
College of
Education . The event will feature refreshments beginning at 7 p.m. followed at 8 p.m. by a free performance of The Elephant Man, by Bernard Pomerance. The Elephant Man tells the story of John Merrick, an outcast whose appearance is so hideously deformed that people run from him in fear. When Dr. Treves saves him from the freak shows, is he really keeping
Merrick from exploitation or does he capitalize on his own agenda to propel studies in human malformation?
“The
College of
Education Open House ” is sponsored by the Department of Theatre, in conjunction with the 2007-2008 subscription campaign. Students are eligible to purchase a Hilberry season ticket for the low price of only $48! The 2007 – 2008 Hilberry Theatre season will feature the following shows: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long and Daniel Singer; The Lusty and Comical History of Tom Jones by John Morrison; Biloxi Blues by Neil Simon; As You Like It by William Shakespeare; The Master Builder by Henrik Ibsen; and The Compleat Female Stage Beauty by Jeffery Hatcher. Faculty and staff of WSU who are currently enrolled in at least one class are also eligible to receive the student pricing.
The Elephant Man plays through May 3, 2007 in rotating repertory with On the Verge by Eric Overmyer and Translations by Brian Friel. Subscriptions for the 2007 – 2008 season go on sale beginning March 1, 2007.
