Order entered granting motion by three universities to complete this year's admissions and aid cycle under current rules

Today Judge David Lawson, of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, entered an Order granting the motion filed jointly by Wayne State University, Michigan State University and University of Michigan. The motion delays the application of the Michigan Civil Rights Amendment to the universities\' admissions and financial aid policies through the end of the current admissions cycle, or until July 1, 2007. The order was entered after agreement among the Governor, the Attorney General, the three universities, and the plaintiffs in the underlying lawsuit.

"This ruling supports Wayne\'s commitment to preserve fairness in the treatment of applicants to Wayne State University in the coming academic year, and will give Wayne the time it needs to prepare for the future," noted Wayne State General Counsel Lou Lessem. "We\'re very pleased that all of the parties recognized the importance of allowing this time."

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 11 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students.
