Detroit Native Walter White returns to perform at Wayne State University

DETROIT, MI (November 17, 2006) – The Wayne State University Department of Music is proud to welcome the Fall 2006 Artist-in-Residence Walter White to campus November 21-28. White will be performing at Wayne State Tuesday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Schaver Music Recital Hall, located on campus at 480 W. Hancock, Detroit. Walter White is globally respected as one of the leading jazz and classical trumpeters in the world and this concert will feature White as soloist and composer. The WSU Big Band, with Chris Collins as director, will be performing White’s arrangements and original compositions for big band, and will feature many of WSU’s talented students as soloists. The WSU Big Band headlined with renown artist Dianne Schuur at the 2006 Jazz Festival, and performed with Joe Lovano, playing to sold out crowds at The Music Box as part of Max’s Jazz Club Series.

Walter White grew up near Detroit, Michigan and studied at Interlochen, Julliard, the University of Miami, and The Banff Centre. He has worked with such artists as Maynard Ferguson, Bob James, Dave Holland, the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He is currently performing with the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra and is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician. His playing has been heard in soundtracks for both television and motion pictures, including the network sit-coms “Taxi” and “The Cosby Show.”
