President Irvin D. Reid and the Wayne State Board of Governors are continuing to demonstrate their commitment to Macomb County by holding the Board of Governors meeting on Nov. 8 at the University Center — Macomb. President Reid will announce the recent introduction of seven new programs available in Macomb County at a reception for local officials and community leaders immediately following the meeting.
“As one of the nation’s largest, most highly regarded research and learning institutions, Wayne State University is uniquely poised to serve Macomb County, which, given its unusually fast-growing population, has a need for a more highly educated work force,” noted Dr. Reid. “Through Wayne State, Macomb County has access to one of the most prestigious medical research schools in the world. In addition, Wayne State offers access to unmatched resources given the university’s size, diversity, program offerings and demonstrated track record for providing a world-class collegiate experience.”
As part of Wayne State’s expansion in Macomb County, the following programs will be added to the current offerings available through the University Center-Macomb as of January 2007.
- Master of Library and Information Science
- Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with a Criminal Justice minor
- Master of Education, Special Education-Learning Disabilities
- Master of Education in Educational Leadership
- Education Specialist Certificate in Educational Leadership
- Master of Science in Nursing — (one core class will be offered in winter 2007)
- Master of Interdisciplinary Studies — available fall 2007
- Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education (Elementary Certificate —Science or Math Major)
- Bachelor of Arts/Science in Secondary Education
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology
- Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies
- Bachelor of Technical and Interdisciplinary Studies
- Bachelor of Social Work
- Secondary Education Certification
- Bachelor of Arts (Major in English)
- Master of Business Administration
Wayne State’s decision to expand its programs in Macomb County is part of ongoing assessments and analysis of the higher education programs and services that Macomb County and its residents need. Wayne State’s plans will continue to evolve as the findings of this ongoing research unfold.
