YOUNG GUITARIST PROMISES TO DAZZLE DETROIT AUDIENCE
DETROIT, MI (October 6, 2006) – The Wayne State University Department of Music will present guitar virtuoso Ana Vidovic in a free concert at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2006. The Department is also hosting a free master class that evening with Ana at 5 p.m. Both events will be held in the Schaver Music Recital Hall, located at 480 W. Hancock, Detroit. Twenty-four year old Ana Vidovic has been playing classical guitar since the age of five and has been dazzling audiences since age seven. She became an international performer by the time she was eleven, and at the age of thirteen, was the youngest student to attend the prestigious National Musical Academy in Zagreb, Croatia. Vidovic has given over one thousand performances since first taking the stage in 1988. She has performed in cities throughout the world, including London, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Salzburg, Budapest, Toronto, San Francisco, Houston, Dallas, to name a few. In her native Croatia, she has performed with the Zagreb Soloists, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestra of the Croatian Radio and Television. Eminent Croatian film director Petar Krelja has also featured Ana in three television documentaries.
Ana has won an impressive number of prizes and international competitions, including first prizes in the Albert Augustine International Competition in Bath, England, the Fernando Sor Competition in Rome, Italy, and the Francisco Tarrega Competition in Benicasim, Spain. Her extraordinary talent and reputation led to an invitation to study at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore where she earned her Master’s Degree and is currently working on her Artist Diploma Degree, the most prestigious degree awarded by Peabody.
