DETROIT – Oct. 4, 2006 – Susanne Spiegel has been appointed Associate Executive Director of the Wayne State University Alumni Association. She most recently was assistant to Wayne State President Irvin D. Reid.
Spiegel, who worked in alumni relations from 1988 to 2001, returned to the alumni association in this major leadership role.
“I still can’t believe our good fortune in enticing Susanne back to Alumni House,” says Wayne State University Alumni Association Executive Director Marguerite Rigby. “Just as we were concluding our search, Susanne’s name came forward, and we were able to close the deal.”
During her term in alumni relations, Spiegel was responsible for the alumni special events program and worked with Women of Wayne in addition to having major responsibilities for university commencement. She developed and directed the first university-wide Special Events and Services department within Development and Alumni Affairs in 2001.
"This is an exciting time for the university,” Spiegel says. “I am looking forward to joining the alumni leadership and the staff at Alumni House as they plan to enhance the visibility of the alumni association and Wayne State University as a national presence."
In the newly created No. 2 position in the alumni association, Spiegel will assist in providing overall direction and leadership for the programs of the national alumni association as well as the activities of the 13 school/college/interest alumni groups.
In announcing her appointment, President Reid says, “(Susanne’s) key contacts and relationships within the university will be a great asset as the alumni association proceeds with a strategic planning process that began this summer.”
Spiegel and her husband, Stephen Williams, are Detroit residents.
The Wayne State University Alumni Association has been building loyalty and support among alumni for more than 70 years.
