Detroit Public Radio Welcomes Familiar Voice With New Saturday Night Blues Program
DETROIT – September 12, 2006 – WDET 101.9FM proudly welcomes long-time Detroit broadcaster Jay Butler to the microphones of Detroit Public Radio. He will be producing and hosting a program, “Jay’s Place,” on Saturday evenings from 9pm to midnight beginning September 16. With almost five decades of broadcast experience, Jay Butler is a familiar voice to generations of Detroiters from his years at WJLB, WCHB and WQBH. Listeners can expect a lively mix of blues, R&B and soul when they stop by “Jay’s Place” on Saturday nights.
“I’m very excited to be hosting a program on WDET,” said Jay Butler. “I’m looking forward to reconnecting with many long-time listeners and making a lot of news friends, as well. It’s great to be a part of a station like WDET where the music hosts are allowed the artistic freedom to create their own programs, and Saturday nights are going to be very special. I hope everyone tunes in.”
Listeners can expect to hear such artists as Buddy Guy, BB King, Etta James, Bobby Bland, Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Reed, Alberta Adams, the Butler Twins, Cash McCall, Delbert McClinton, Jimmy Reed, Johnnie Bassett, John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Muddy Watters, Ray Charles, Roomful of Blues, Roy Buchanan, Sam Cooke, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Santana, Taj Mahal and countless others.
“Having Jay Butler at WDET continues the station’s long tradition of outstanding music programming,” said Allen Mazurek, WDET Program Director. “We’re delighted to have someone with his experience and knowledge of music join us at Detroit Public Radio.”
“Jay’s Place” airs Saturday evenings from 9pm to midnight on WDET 101.9FM and online at wdetfm.org
