As part of Wayne State\'s Welcome Back Week extravaganza on campus, U.S. Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) will deliver a talk on resolving disputes over national and international issues in Congress on Sept.15, 2006 at 1 p.m. in 150 General Lectures, located at Anthony Wayne Drive and Warren Avenue on the Wayne State campus. The Stanley H. Marx Lecture Series in Dispute Resolution, sponsored by Wayne State\'s M.A. in Dispute Resolution and Department of Communication, provides a public forum for sharing information about ways of managing conflict.
"Our Dispute Resolution program is honored to have someone who has built an outstanding reputation as an advocate for reasoned problem-solving and supportive approaches to family, community and international disputes," noted Wayne State University Professor Loraleigh Keashly, Associate Professor, Communication, and Academic Director, M.A. in Dispute Resolution of the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts.
Congressman Dingell is recognized for his mastery in the art of dispute resolution, given his role spearheading the successful passage of numerous complex bills during his more than 50-year tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
His skill in dispute resolution is likely to become even more relevant to his effectiveness in Congress should Congressman Dingell assume Chairmanship of the powerful House Committee on Energy and Commerce after the next election.
An avid proponent of education-related government programs and assistance to state colleges and universities, Congressman Dingell demonstrates his commitment by sharing his conflict management strategies with Wayne State University students at this Sept. 15, 2006 event.
"I am honored to speak at Wayne State on this critical life skill," noted Congressman Dingell. "The university is forward-thinking in realizing that students must be equipped with the ability to solve \'people problems\' in order to succeed in school and in life."
Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 11 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students.
