Wayne State University's TRiO Educational Opportunity Center to hold community open house Aug. 31

Wayne State University’s TRiO Educational Opportunity Center (TRiO EOC) will host its first Community Open House on Thursday, Aug. 31, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center, 495 West Ferry Mall, in Detroit. The event is free and open to the general public. Free parking will be available for attendees in the Law Library parking lot located on Palmer between Cass and Second.

During the event, TRiO EOC’s program and its services will be presented to the general public. Interested individuals will also have an opportunity to register for the program.

TRiO EOC is a free comprehensive counseling program providing academic, vocational, career and financial aid information to eligible adults in the Detroit metropolitan area. EOC assists adults choosing to enter college or vocational schools and those returning to secondary and postsecondary schools. Other services provided are: academic advising and/or assistance in course selection; assistance in completing college admission and financial aid applications; assistance in preparing for college entrance examinations; career assessment and counseling; campus tours and personal counseling. EOC serves 1,000 Adult Learners annually.

Eligible EOC participants must fulfill these criteria: 19 years of age or older; low income; first generation to enter college; a resident of one of the target cities: Detroit, Ecorse, Hamtramck, Highland Park or River Rouge; and in need of one or more of the services provided.

TRiO Education Opportunity Center is designed for people who have not completed their high school education; and/or would like to pursue post secondary education, but do not know where to begin; and/or would like to prepare for a career change.
