WDET wins five awards from Society of Professional Journalists

Detroit Public Radio Once Again Recognized For Excellence In Reporting

DETROIT – August 2, 2006 – Detroit Public Radio was honored with five awards from the Metro Detroit Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). These awards recognize excellence in local journalism, and add to the numerous awards the WDET news department has been honored with this year. WDET’s 2006 SPJ awards are as follows:

General News Reporting:
Second Place: Jerome Vaughn, “Delphi Worker”

General Feature Reporting:
First Place: Celeste Headlee, “Margaret Garner”

Sports Reporting:
First Place: Jerome Vaughn, “Hockey Canceled”

Regular Newscast:
Third Place: Joan Silvi, “All Things Considered, December 13, 2005 Newscast”

Spot/Breaking News:
First Place: Jerome Vaughn, “Rosa Parks’ Funeral”
