Detroit — Wayne State University has created a new program to help workers displaced by the transitional economy enhance their skills, advance in their current job or begin a new career. The NewStart Program allows adults who have been in the workplace to earn a degree or certificate that could lead to a new career in business, computer science, engineering, education or another high-demand field.
“Wayne State has attended several education fairs at Ford and Visteon plants, letting employees know it is a great time to earn that degree they’ve always wanted,” says Nancy S. Barrett, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “Whether they are interested in earning a degree for the first time or looking for an advanced degree in their field, Wayne State offers an array of choices that will give them a new start.”
Wayne State offers more than 350 degree programs at six locations throughout Southeast Michigan and has one of the largest graduate and professional schools in the nation to allow working adults to find a program that matches their experience, skills and interests.
“The sooner they start, the sooner they’ll have the skills, knowledge and credentials needed to excel in their chosen occupation,” explains Barrett. “That is why we created the NewStart Program. We want to assist anyone interested in earning their degree to achieve their professional and career goals.”
Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 11 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students. Information on the NewStart Program is available online at www.wayne.edu/NewStart
