Wayne State University has announced the appointment of Andrea Roumell Dickson, a veteran attorney and former shareholder in the Detroit law office of Butzel Long, as executive vice president and chief of staff, effective Sept. 5. The appointment was announced by Wayne State President Irvin D. Reid.
Dickson, a 1981 graduate of the WSU Law School, co-chaired Butzel Long’s Labor and Employment Department and devoted her practice to labor and employment litigation matters representing both public and private sector organizations. She has extensive experience working with higher education institutions regarding numerous organizational and policy issues.
“We are pleased that Andrea is joining the university’s management team in a key leadership position,” said Wayne State President Irvin D. Reid. “As a Wayne State alumna, she brings an important perspective to this role. Her expertise in policy development on important higher education issues, strategic planning and implementation will serve the university well,” Reid said.
Dickson, former chairperson of the State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Law Council, is a frequent speaker on continuing legal education issues. She serves on the State Bar of Michigan Judicial Qualifications Committee and was elected a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. She also is active with various civic and community organizations including the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Historical Society.
Dickson earned a bachelor’s degree from Smith College and law degree from Wayne State University’s School of Law.
