All Wayne State University students invited to a free career and educational symposium

Wayne State University’s Department of Interdisciplinary Studies (IS) is co-sponsoring an educational and career symposium May 13, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., at the General Lectures building located on Anthony Wayne Drive and Warren. All Wayne State University students are invited to attend free of charge.

This event is also sponsored by the WSU Theta Xi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. It was established in 1998 for non-traditional students to participate in an honor organization or program for the advancement and recognition of high scholastic achievement.

According to Amanda Reese, president, Theta Xi Chapter, IS alumna and WSU employee, “There are students who don’t know what direction to go in after they’ve earned their degree so the career and educational symposium is a perfect spin-off to the May 6 graduation.” WSU Employment Services will be on-site to provide tips on the appropriate attire for business and how to advance your career. Other Wayne State representatives will be available to provide information on how to apply to graduate school and how to start a business.

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies directly and innovatively addresses the urban mission of Wayne State University by implementing curricula in ways that serve the needs of nontraditional students, many of whom are the first generation in their family or neighborhood to attend a university. It is the mission of IS to meet the needs of working and commuting students who are racially and ethnically diverse.
