DETROIT, MI (March 31, 2006) – The Wayne State University Choral Department will be presenting their Spring Choral Showcase, next Tuesday, April 4 at the Detroit School of Arts. The WSU Concert Chorale, Choral Union, Men’s Glee Club, and Women’s Chorale will perform on the concert, along with three Detroit School of Arts choral ensembles. The WSU Concert Chorale, under the direction of Norah Duncan IV, will perform works by Anders Nyberg, W.A. Mozart, and Morten Lauridsen. The Choral Union, under the direction of Augustus O. Hill, will perform works by W.A. Mozart, Norman Luboff, Nathaniel Dett, and Ernst Toch. Under the direction of Maurice Draughn, Wayne’s Men’s Glee Club will perform works by Randall Thompson, Eric Thiman, and Thamon Simpson. The WSU Women’s Chorale, under the direction of Abigail Butler, will perform two pieces by Gwyneth Walker, So May Angels and Walk That Valley, both based on African American Spirituals. Both pieces were commissioned and premiered by three different women’s choruses in the United States. The Women’s Chorale will also perform an arrangement of Over the Rainbow by jazz composer/arranger Matt Michaels. In a combined performance, DSA Concert Choir and WSU Concert Chorale will perform The Battle of Jericho by Moses Hogan, under the direction of Norah Duncan IV.
The Wayne State Concert Chorale and Choral Union have performed numerous large works with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra.
