Senate must move swiftly on curriculum

The House has done its job, and now the Senate must act, and swiftly, to approve the more rigorous curriculum for Michigan high school students. House members voted last week to OK the course requirements. There were a few deviations from the plan submitted by the State Board of Education, which sought 18 credits in math, English, science and other courses, up from the current requirement of one semester of civics. The differences are not insignificant, but they can be worked out and are not an excuse to derail the proposal.
