Wayne State University Law School’s Ninth Annual Treasure of Detroit Gala will be held at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, April 1, 2006.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour; dinner and the presentation of awards to five alumni honorees will follow. This year’s presentations will be made by John “Ankles” Stewart and Dana Mills of Purtan’s People, Oldies 104.3 WOMC radio. Tours of the Ford Field facility are included in the evening’s festivities, as is a Silent Auction to benefit student organizations at the Law School.
The 2006 honorees are:
Hon. Adam A. Shakoor, a retired 36th District Court Judge and founding partner of Adam Shakoor & Associates. Judge Shakoor also served as Deputy Mayor of the city of Detroit and as Chief Administrative Officer for the city from 1989 to 1993. Judge Shakoor received his J.D from the WSU Law School in 1976. His office is in Detroit.
David J. Galbenski, the president and CEO of Lumen Legal (formerly Contract Counsel), which has been honored as one of the fastest growing private companies and one of the best companies to work for. The company has pioneered domestic outsourcing solutions for corporate clients and law firms and guided development of an innovative data-base-driven human resource system. Mr. Galbenski received his J.D. from the WSU Law School in 1993. Lumen Legal is based in Royal Oak, MI.
Eric Ersher, the managing partner of Zoup! Fresh Soup Company LLC, which he founded in 1998. The company has 14 casual restaurants in Michigan and Ohio, and has been recognized as a “Hot Concept Winner” by the restaurant industry. Mr. Ersher received his J.D. from the WSU Law School in 1994. Zoup! is based in Southfield, MI.
Stephanie K. Hoos, a bankruptcy attorney with the New York City firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popep, PC has worked on cases such as the Enron, WorldCom, and Delphi bankruptcies. She is also the owner and designer of her own company, Stephanie Hoos Swim, a high-end swimwear firm for women and men. Her designs have been featured in Elle, Glamour, and Harper’s Bazaar. Ms. Hoos received her J.D. from the WSU Law School in 1999. She lives and works in New York City.
LaRissa D. Hollingsworth, an attorney with the law firm Rhoades McKee in Grand Rapids, MI. One year out of law school, she won a prisoner rights case in Federal Court and secured a six-figure settlement for her client whom she represented pro bono. She was the only Michigan attorney named to the “Lawyers of the Year” list by Lawyers Weekly USA in 2004. Ms. Hollingsworth received her J.D. from the WSU Law School in 2003. She lives and works in Grand Rapids, MI.
