WSU Students Offer Health Screenings on Thursday at Fort Street Presbyterian Church in Detroit

      Who: Students in Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wayne State University

      What: Health Screenings for Homeless and Underserved Families

      When: 9:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday (Jan. 12)

      Where: The Open Door program at Fort Street Presbyterian Church, 361 W. Fort Street, Detroit

 

         Students in the Physician Assistant Studies, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy programs are screening for high blood pressure and providing foot exams to the homeless and underserved families.  This is the second of three health screenings being offered through the “The Open Door” Ministry” of Fort Street Presbyterian Church, Detroit. 

       The program is just one of several activities that the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS) is sponsoring as part of its partnership in “40 Days of Fitness,” a National Football League (NFL) multi-cultural and community impact event leading to Super Bowl XL. 

       Through the NFL-sanctioned “40 Days of Fitness,” the college joins with the Greater Detroit Area Health Council and other health systems in promoting healthier lifestyles within the community and providing wellness information, health screenings and education for underserved families. 

        Other college-sponsored activities include a health and fitness student mixer, health screenings at a pharmacy in Highland Park , and health appraisal for Special Olympics Detroit.
