Stage forecast: Wickedly good

Hilberry classics If the Nederlander organization knows a sure hit musical, the Hilberry knows how to mix a lineup of straight plays to keep its 3,500 subscribers on the hook. The graduate forum of Wayne State University \'s theater program, the Hilberry has been producing ambitious seasons of classic and contemporary drama for 43 years. Beyond \"Electra,\" the Hilberry\'s second-term play list ranges from Larry Gelbart\'s \"Sly Fox,\" about swindlers who exploit the folly of human greed (Feb. 3-March 30) to Shakespeare\'s romantic tragedy \"Antony and Cleopatra\" (March 3-May 4) and Gogol\'s \"The Inspector General\" (April 7-May 13), another send-up of the human penchant for angles and shortcuts." We're a classical theater, but our shows are done by graduate students, which means they\'re interpreted with contemporary perspective,\" says Nicole Gram, who\'s earning her master\'s degree while serving as marketing director for Wayne State theaters, including the undergraduate Bonstelle. \"We bring our youthfulness to it, even if it\'s a play 2,000 years old." Gram says the Hilberry troupe also sees itself as part of the community. \"We present very diverse plays to a very strong following,\" she says. \"We have subscribers who go all the way back to our first production of Shakespeare\'s \'Julius Caesar\' in 1963.\"
