WSU Conference will focus on doing business in China

U.S. and Chinese experts will discuss the risks and rewards for North American suppliers doing business in China at a one-day conference December 6 at Wayne State University.

“The automotive industrial development activity occurring in the most populated country in the world is on the fast track, and the influence of our own country’s manufacturing and research expertise on this development is significant,” says Engineering Dean Ralph Kummler, who is hosting the event.

“China: Automotive Opportunities for North American Suppliers” is scheduled for 7:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 6 at McGregor Memorial Conference Center and the Community Arts Auditorium.

The keynote speaker will be Jim Padilla, president of Ford Motor Co. The master of ceremonies will be Edward Griffor of MIT Alliance, an affiliate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and its alumni member organizations. Featured speakers include Zhou Wei, president, China Academy of Transportation Sciences; Dongchang Dai, president, Transportation Planning and Research Institute, part of China’s Ministry of Transportation; Albert King, director, Wayne State University Bioengineering Center; and Beth Lowry, vice president of communication, General Motors Corp. A panel discussion with a question-and-answer session will follow the speakers.

Organized by Alsus L.L.C. and the MIT Alliance, the conference is sponsored by Urban Science Applications, Inc. and hosted by the WSU College of Engineering. Tickets are $125 if bought by Nov. 23, and $150 after Nov. 23.
