On Nov. 19, the eve of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies’ 40th anniversary at Wayne State University, the Center will host the Community Peacemaker Awards in celebration of those who have made a difference for peace and social understanding in our community.
This event, with emcee Huel Perkins of Fox 2 News, and keynote speaker Shirley Stancato of New Detroit, Inc., will take place at the WSU McGregor Memorial Conference Center at 6:00 p.m. Please RSVP by Nov. 11, 2005 at 313-577-3453. Parking is available in structures 2 and 5 and is $3.50. A campus map can be found at www.campusmap.wayne.edu.
The 2005 recipients include: Lawrence and Girija Brilliant, experts on global communicable disease and founders of the Seva Foundation for global blindness; Michael Sarafa, president of the Associated Food Dealers of Michigan; Reginald Turner, President of the National Bar Association and attorney instrumental in the UM affirmative action case; Workmen’s Circle, a Jewish community organization focusing on immigration issues; and longtime community activists Morton and Mary Lou Zieve.
Frederic Pearson, Director of the Center for Peace & Conflict Studies, said this year’s event is of special importance because “it also marks the center’s 40th anniversary and brings together global peacemakers who have roots in Detroit with local peacemakers who have done outstanding work in bridging social divides.”
Ad space is available in the event program. For more information about posting an ad or congratulatory message, visit www.pcs.wayne.edu.
