DETROIT, MI (October 10, 2005) – The Wayne State Department of Music in conjunction with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will host a master class and talk by
Chick Corea, musical legend and Director of DSO’s jazz series, this Wednesday, October 12 at 1:15 p.m. The master class and question and answer session will be held in the Schaver Recital Hall, located at 480 W. Hancock, Detroit. The event is free and open to the public. For additional information call (313) 577-1795.
Prior to the Q&A, moderated by director of WSU’s jazz studies program Chris Collins, a WSU student jazz combo will perform for comments by Corea.
Chick Corea, born Armando Anthony Corea, has been an influential force in music for four decades. His musical resume defies categories and includes jazz, electronic music, solo piano, classical music and high-powered acoustic music. He has played with Blue Mitchell, Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Hubert Laws, Chaka Kahn and Nancy Wilson. Corea has recorded numerous albums, including Grammy-winners “No Mystery” and “Leprechaun”, and has released albums under Stretch Records and Sony Classical labels. He has played and recorded with his own groups including Circle, Return to Forever, Elektric Band and Origin.
