DETROIT, MI (October 5, 2005) – The Sphinx Quartet, a professional ensemble, will be performing a special free concert at Wayne State on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m. in the Schaver Recital Hall. The Quartet will also be performing at New York’s Trinity Church tomorrow, October 6 at 1 p.m. There will be a live webcast available of their New York concert at www.trinitywallstreet.org.
The Sphinx Organization, a Detroit organization committed to building diversity in classical music, is presenting the Quartet’s Wayne State performance. Debuting in 2002, the Sphinx Quartet has met to great success. Their dedication to music education is unparalleled and their commitment to the development of diverse audiences of all ages has established them as one of the leading emerging quartets in the country. Only in their fourth year as a professional quartet, the ensemble has performed across the country, including Carnegie Hall in New York, as well as internationally in Bermuda. They have held numerous residencies in Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland. Members Bryan Hernandez-Luch, Shelby Latin, Christopher Jenkins, and Jared Snyder are all distinguished alumni of the national Sphinx Competition for young Black and Latino string players.
