Activities for Wayne State alumni and friends heat up in September

Two special fall activities kick off Wayne State University ’s calendar of events for alumni and friends during the fall 2005 season. Both require reservations – call (313) 577-0300 to get a seat.

Oktoberfest Celebration

Last year’s popular Oktoberfest celebration returns to campus this September at an all-new venue: Motor City Brewing Works. The Midtown-based brewer will pour a special Oktoberfest brew for the occasion while you enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of the spirited German-inspired festival. You’ll think you’re in Munich when you sing and dance to the sounds of SPASS, the lively German band that delighted festival-goers last year, and feast on festival favorites such as Bratwurst with sauerkraut, German potato pancakes, Krautsalat, giant pretzels and apple strudel. There will be plenty of celebrating inside and out, so be sure to stop by rain or shine.

 Date:               Saturday, Sept. 10

 Address:        Motor City Brewing Works

                         470 W. Canfield

The Model T Automotive Heritage Complex Tour

Step back in time to one of the most hallowed places in automotive history: the Piquette Avenuefactory. It’s where Henry Ford conceptualized and built the first Model T, and it will set the tone for a delightfully nostalgic afternoon that will include a pre-reception and introduction by the museum’s curator, followed by an exciting guided tour.

The Model T Ford was produced at the Piquette plant in 1909 and 1910. The building’s third floor, where Ford designed the Model T, still has the original peeling paint on the pillars and quaint signs reading "Positively No Smoking." Henry Ford\'s presence there can be felt today. The building has been deemed by automotive historians the most significant building in the relating to automotive history. Today, the “T-Plex” has been preserved and restored as a public museum.

 Time:              2 p.m.

 Date:               Saturday, Sept. 24

Address:        Model T Automotive Heritage Complex

                        140 Edison Avenue

                        Detroit
