TechTown boosts business growth in Detroit with five new companies

TechTown, Detroit ’s only research and technology park, has welcomed five new tenants since celebrating its first anniversary this summer. The organization’s staff has been forced out of private offices and into cubicles in order to meet entrepreneurs’ demand for space in TechOne, TechTown’s first incubator facility.

“As TechTown continues to gain momentum, we are delighted with the ever-widening diversity in the types of technology companies we attract,” says Howard Bell, TechTown’s executive director.

“Having an alternative energy company sign a lease in the same month as a biomedical venture confirms that our facility is well equipped to accommodate all kinds of technology research, services and production.”

TechTown’s new tenants are:

Alternative Power Supply: A renewable energy systems supplier that integrates distributes and installs complete wind and solar power systems for small to medium-size businesses, institutions and residences.

BioVant Systems: A biomedical company that develops and markets body composition and hydration analysis devices for the healthcare, medical research, pharmaceutical and fitness industries.

MHR Group: A VoIP service provider offering a complete spectrum of telecommunications services, including phone systems, local and long distance service, Internet access and cable.

Model D Media: An electronic media company serving consumers with a website and weekly e-newsletter that provide the latest growth and investment news about Detroit ’s neighborhoods.

SimGroup: A facilities and logistics management company specializing in start-ups and expansions.

By providing entrepreneurs with affordable, high quality work space in combination with comprehensive business services, TechTown can retain the best local tech companies, become the natural destination for university researchers who want to commercialize innovations, and attract companies from across the nation and abroad.

TechTown empowers entrepreneurs to build successful technology businesses that improve the quality of life for people across the country and around the world. At TechTown, we provide the support and access to capital needed to build high tech companies in Detroit . We are a community of entrepreneurs, investors, mentors, service providers and corporate partners.
