"Leaders on Leadership" television program wins Emmy Award

The Wayne State University School of Business Administration’s weekly 30-minute talk show, “Leaders on Leadership,” garnered an Emmy Award from the Michigan Chapter of the National Television Academy at the 27th Annual Gala in Detroit recently. Co-produced and broadcast by Detroit Public TV (WTVS, Channel 56), “Leaders” won the Emmy for its 2004 season as best program in the “interview/discussion” category. Mark Nathanson, WTVS producer, accepted the award on behalf of the station and the WSU School of Business Administration. Entries were judged on content, creativity, and execution.

The program, currently in its second season, features a different corporate or organizational leader each week. Program creator Larry Fobes, who directs the Institute for Organizational and Industrial Competitiveness at WSU’s School of Business Administration, interviews a prominent leader for each show. Following the interview, students from the school pose leadership questions to the guest. The program is complemented by an MBA course in leadership taught by Distinguished Professor Richard Osborn. The class focuses not only on the academic components of leadership but on the real-world dimensions of leadership as practiced by program guests.

“Leaders” spotlights the character, drive, and ambition of individuals renowned for their leadership in guiding local, national, and international organizations. Guests over the first two seasons have included David Brandon, chairman and CEO of Domino’s Pizza; Dieter Zetsche, president and CEO of Chrysler Group; Nick Scheele, past president of Ford Motor Co.; Peter Karmanos, chairman and CEO of Compuware; and Florine Mark, chair and CEO of The WW Group, to name a few.

The program is broadcast on Sundays at 1 p.m. on WTVS, with a rebroadcast on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. “Leaders on Leadership” will begin its third season this fall.
