German and Slavic Studies awards scholarships

Wayne State University’s department of German and Slavic Studies has announced the multiple recipients of three scholarship funds for the 2005-2006 academic year.

  •  The Concordia Singing Society Foundation Scholarships – over $8,000 in scholarships to eight students who will study in Germany for the summer or entire year will go to: Susan Bollinger, Grosse Pointe Woods; Emily Bowyer, Westland; Matthew Isner, Livonia; Grant Korabik, N. Muskegon; Rebecca Raebel, Huntington Woods; Therese Walkowski, Hamtramck; and Benjamin Walvoord, Detroit; Brandon Willard, Royal Oak. These scholarships were established by Kurt Hartlieb and the Concordia Singing Society Foundation to promote international understanding and friendship.

  •  The Uwe K. Faulhaber Endowed Scholarships – German and Slavic Studies will award $10,200 in scholarships to eight undergraduate students who are majoring or minoring in German in recognition of their academic achievement. The winners are Emily Bowyer, Westland; Lindsay Jewell, Fraser; Grant Korabik, Muskegon; and Theresa Walkowski, Hamtramck. The Uwe K. Faulhaber Endowed Scholarship was created by Ann Kirk Warren and the Faulhaber family in honor and memory of the late Professor Uwe K. Faulhaber, associate professor of German at Wayne State. Professor Faulhaber was well known for his excellence in teaching and dedication to his students.

  •  The Slavic Scholarships – $1,300 will be awarded to four undergraduate students in recognition of their academic achievement in Slavic Studies: Laura Burman, Allenton; Jamie Dickinson, Eastpointe; Rebecca Stasko, Detroit; and Nina Fawaz, Detroit.
