Wayne State University Offers Computer Camp for high school students June 27 to July 14

Wayne State’s department of computer science is launching a summer camp for high school students ages 14 to 16. The three-week program is $350 and includes all supplies and use of computers and facilities. Registration and a cashier’s check must be received by June 21st

The goal of the camp is to have students learn Web technologies and design and Web animation design. The classes will enable students to learn how to establish and develop their own Web sites.

“Educated people are needed to improve the design, use, behavior and stability of widely distributed computer network systems,” said Prof.  Seymour Wolfson, who is also associate chair of the computer science department. “In response to that demand, Wayne State ’s computer science department has decided to offer a computer summer camp to assist young high school students in learning some of the skills needed to participate in this rapidly growing field.”

The program will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.  The Web technologies and design class will be held in the morning and the Web animation and design class will held in the early afternoon.

In addition to the computer classes, the students will have the opportunity to use Wayne State’s Fitness Center and take field trips to the Detroit Science Center, Detroit Institute of Arts and Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 12 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students in metropolitan Detroit .
