(Detroit) May 13, 2005--ForeverFresh Global, a Detroit-based maker of disposable undergarments, gloves and gowns, was the only U.S. company this year to win an award at the annual European Disposables and Nonwovens Association trade show. ForeverFresh Founder and President Tanya R. Allen accepted the award in Geneva, Switzerland, on April 12 at the opening reception of the world's largest nonwovens exhibition.
ForeverFresh Global was given the top prize for "disposable finished products made from or incorporating nonwoven materials" by a five-judge panel. "It validated my belief that this is a viable product with global potential. As a result of my award, we are now talking with global players in the feminine hygiene market," says Allen, who has been selected as the June 10 speaker for the Women's Economic Club's entrepreneurial seminar series.
Allen will soon launch an online store enabling women and men to buy ForeverFresh products from the privacy of their homes. Used primarily by women during menstruation, for travel and for women and men experiencing incontinence, ForeverFresh underwear is also purchased by hospitals for post-operative patients.
Fifteen years ago, Allen's first buyers were Detroit-area hospitals. She patented disposable brief, bikini and hipster underwear with a pouch for incontinence or menstrual pads in 1994. One year later, as the primary caretaker for her 100-year-old great-grandmother Hattie Lanier, Allen was able to see the positive impact of ForeverFresh merchandise in her own home.
"When she wore the product, that helped me see the value for geriatric patients because it kept her dignity intact. It increases the quality of life for people," says Allen, whose great-grandmother lived another five years.
A community-minded entrepreneur, Allen is giving back to the organizations that helped her care for Lanier. She has signed agreements to donate 5 percent of every online purchase to the Detroit Area Agency on Aging or Hospice of Michigan.
TechTown, Detroit's only research and technology park, assists ForeverFresh with business development research.
