Local student(s) inducted into David Mackenzie Honor Society

In recognition of their outstanding scholarship, service, and loyalty to Wayne State University, 12 graduates will be inducted into the David Mackenzie Honor Society during a special reception beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the university's McGregor Memorial Conference Center.

The society - one of the most prestigious groups at WSU - is named for David Mackenzie, the first dean of what is now the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The society was founded in 1981 through a merger of Karyatides, the former women's honor society founded in 1931, and the Mackenzie Honor Society, organized in 1926. Members are chosen for their exceptional contributions to the welfare and development of the university and the community.

WSU alumnus and legendary weathercaster Sonny Eliot, who broadcasts weekdays on WWJ Newsradio 950, will be inducted as an honorary member this year. A resident of Farmington Hills, Eliot has received the Sloan Award for his traffic safety tips; citations by the American Legion and American Meteorological Society; and the Toastmaster International Award. He also has received a Broadcast Excellence Award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
