DETROIT, MI (March 31, 2005) - Wayne State University Wind Symphony, under the baton of Douglas Bianchi, will perform their final concert for the 2004-2005 season on Wednesday, April 13. The April 13 concert will feature the American classic, \"Rhapsody in Blue\", by George Gershwin with piano soloist Robert Conway. \"Rhapsody\", a unique and distinctive blend of jazz and classical music, was written in 1924 and considered an innovator for new worlds of music.
Piano soloist Robert Conway, Professor of Music at Wayne State University, is one of the most exciting and versatile performers of 20th-Century music in the country today. He is a frequent solo recitalist and chamber musician and has performed as pianist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra since 1989. Conway, a Huntington Woods Resident, recently performed \"Rhapsody in Blue\" with the Flint Youth Orchestra as part of the International Youth Music Festival.
The Wind Symphony, WSU\'s premier student band, is also performing with the WSU Concert Chorale on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Community Arts Auditorium. The program will include Johan de Meij\'s \"Casanova\" for wind orchestra and solo cello featuring Yuriy Leonovich, a Wayne State Music student and a resident of Franklin, Michigan.
