Wayne State Orchestra to Perform as part of American Romanian Music Festival

DETROIT, MI (March 29, 2005) - The Wayne State University Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Kypros Markou, will perform music by Romanian composers at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 11 as part of the inaugural American Romanian Music Festival. The week-long celebration begins on April 8 in Detroit and Ann Arbor. The performances include musicians from Wayne State University, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the University of Michigan, all performing works by leading Romanian composer and special guest Cornel Taranu.

 Wayne State\'s April 11 performance will feature music by Romanian composers and also Dello Joio\'s \"Choreography\", Ives\' \"Unanswered Question\", as well as works by Barber and Hanson. Tickets to the concert, which is being held in the Community Arts Auditorium at 5451 Cass Ave in Detroit, are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Wayne State Music is also proud to host a special lecture presentation by Cornel Taranu at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, April 8. The lecture is free of charge and will be held in the Schaver Music Recital Hall at 480 W. Hancock in Detroit.

The American Romanian Music Festival is a sponsored Project of ArtServe Michigan and organized by DSO violinist Marian Tanau. Tanau is also a part-time faculty member of Wayne State University\'s Department of Music.

Wayne State Music is celebrating 86 years of artistic and academic excellence. The Department\'s faculty includes renowned jazz artists, composers, scholars, educators and members of the internationally acclaimed Detroit Symphony Orchestra. WSU alumni have gone on to careers in distinguished orchestras, ensembles and as soloists and music educators the world over.
