Princeton expert to address \"China\'s Economic Transformation\"

Dr. Gregory C. Chow of Princeton University will deliver the annual Samuel M. Levin Award Lecture sponsored by the Department of Economics on Friday, April 1. The lecture will be held at 3 p.m. in the Spencer Partrich Auditorium in the Law School.

Professor Chow is one of the world\'s leading authorities on the economy of China. His lecture is titled \"China\'s Economic Transformation.\" \"Professor Chow is one of the foremost specialists in the world on the economy of China. All members of the Wayne State community are strongly encouraged to attend this important lecture,\" said Jay Levin, chair, Department of Economics.

Chow is the Class of 1913 Professor of Political Economy and Professor of Economics, Emeritus at Princeton. He has been an adviser to the Chinese government on the subject of economic reform at the highest levels. He also has written four major books on China: The Chinese Economy (Harper & Row, 1985); Understanding China\'s Economy (World Scientific Publishing Company, 1994); China\'s Economic Transformation (Blackwell, 2002); and Knowing China (World Scientific Publishing Company, 2004).

Chow was Chairman of the American Economic Association\'s Committee on Exchanges in Economics with the People\'s Republic of China (PRC) from 1981 to 1994 and Co-Chairman of the U.S. Committee on Economics Education and Research in China from 1985 to 1994. He served as adviser to the Premier and the Commission on Restructuring the Economic System of the PRC on the reform of China\'s economy. He has been appointed Honorary Professor at Fudan, Hainan, Nankai, Shandong, the People\'s and Zhongshan Universities and the City University of Hong Kong and has received honorary doctorate degrees from Zhongzhan University and Lingnan University in Hong Kong.
