Announcing the Bonstelle Theatre 2005-2006 Season

The Bonstelle Theatre has announced its 2005-2006 season. The theatre is on the National Register of Historic Theatres and is home to Wayne State University\\\'s undergraduate theatre company.

Opening the 2005-2006 season is Ten November by Steven Dietz. On the eve of November 10, 1975, 29 men set sail toward Detroit on the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. By 7:25 p.m. they would never be seen again. This haunting maritime tale commemorates the 30th anniversary of the tragic sinking with achingly beautiful folk songs and powerful accounts of why the Fitzgerald ended her fateful journey at the bottom of Lake Superior. Ten November plays October 28 - November 6.

Next is the annual holiday production Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and dramatized by Helen Jerome. This tale follows the sensible young Elizabeth Bennett as her mother attempts to marry her and her sisters off at any price. Unfortunately, Elizabeth despises her new match, but faced with pride, prejudice, and misunderstandings, love always seems to find a way. Pride and Prejudice plays December 9 - December 18.

The Black Theatre Program celebrates its 35th year with Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God by Djanet Sears. This beautiful and deeply moving story is set in present-day Negro Creek, a 200-year-old black community in Western Ontario where Rainey Baldwin-Johnson, a country doctor, struggles to come to terms with the loss of her daughter, the disintegration of her marriage, and an eccentric elderly father on an astonishing crusade. Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God plays January 20 - January 29.

Love, jealousy, rivalry and racism collide in William Shakespeare\'s Othello. The noble black Moor General, Othello, is tricked into believing his young and beautiful wife, Desdemona, has been unfaithful. The treacherous villain is Othello\'s own officer, Iago, who uses the gap between appearance and reality as a tool for jealousy and destruction. Othello plays March 3 - March 12.

Little Shop of Horrors is the annual spring musical presentation with book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken. Out-of-luck Skid Row flower shop clerk Seymour, discovers an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, carnivorous, R&B singing plant and is rocketed to fame. But it turns out the bloodthirsty pal has his appetite set on more than just Seymour\'s would-be girlfriend Audrey. This unabashedly tongue-in-cheek musical comes from the creators of Disney\'s \"Beauty and the Beast\" and \"The Little Mermaid\". Little Shop of Horrors plays April 21 - April 30.

The Bonstelle theatre is a Broadway style stage with a 1,143 seat auditorium featuring a balcony. Here, future stars of theatre, film and television follow in the footsteps of such famous alumni as S. Epatha Merkerson (Law and Order), David Ramsey (Pay it Forward) and Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development). The Bonstelle season features five great productions including a heart-warming family favorite, a fresh take on a classic and a show stopping musical.
