Born into slavery, black scholar defied the odds

Michele Valerie Ronnick, associate professor of Greek and Latin at Wayne State, is profiled in this feature story examining her research into the life of black classicist William Sanders Scarborough. Her search led to an exhibit of photographs, "12 Black Classicists," making the rounds of museums and universities and to the editing of a book titled "The Autobiography of William Sanders Scarborough," published by Wayne State University Press. Ronnick is quoted throughout the story and her photo is included.
