Michigan College Goal Sunday helps high school students seeking financial aid

Detroit, Mich. -- Representatives from the Michigan Student Financial Aid Association, in conjunction with Partnership for Learning, are providing free information and assistance to families applying for college financial aid. The initiative, Michigan College Goal Sunday, is a statewide program that premiered in 2004 and will be held this year from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13.

Professionals from Detroit-area colleges and universities, headed up by financial aid administrators from Wayne State University, will be on hand to help students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form for 2005-2006. Students 23 years of age or younger should attend with their parent(s) or guardian(s), who must bring their completed 2004 IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 Forms and any other 2004 income and benefit information.

Financial aid administrators are very excited about the new initiative. According to Daisy Cordero, financial aid officer at Wayne State, \"This is an opportunity for financial aid experts to work one-on-one with Detroit-area students to help them get the financial aid they need to pay for college. Filling out the forms correctly and on time is the first, most important step in the process.\"

While Michigan College Goal Sunday events will be held simultaneously in 20 different communities, including two sites in Detroit, Wayne State will host the event at

    Wayne State University
    David Adamany Undergraduate Library
    5155 Gullen Mall
    Detroit, MI 48202
