WDET now using HD Radio TM Technology

New Digital Broadcast delivers CD Quality Sound and will allow for Future Expanded Service

DETROIT - February 1, 2005 - WDET 101.9FM Detroit Public Radio is now broadcasting digitally with HD Radio technology. The new technology offers greatly improved sound quality, eliminating the noise and interference that cause static, hiss, pops and fades often experienced with analog radios. In addition to "CD-quality" sound, the HD Radio technology will allow WDET to implement additional features in the future such as wireless data services and multi-channel program offerings.

The new technology does not impact listeners who listen on analog receivers but offers people with Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) radios the opportunity to listen to WDET using the new technology.

"We\'re excited to be able to offer this new technology to our listeners," said Caryn Mathes, WDET General Manager. "This immediately benefits our listeners who are using DAB receivers, it will benefit all our listeners in years to come as we are able to expand the services we provide."

HD Radio allows WDET to seamlessly transmit digital quality audio along with the conventional analog signal. WDET will continue to broadcast its analog signal for the foreseeable future, but as more consumers choose to purchase digital receivers for home, car and personal use, WDET will seek to expand its award-winning arts and information programming through the new capabilities offered by digital transmission.
