The Wayne State University Department of Dance features the work of renowned choreographer Jan Van Dyke

with an INFORMANCE of her prize winning work

Jan Van Dyke, a lifelong choreographer and educator holding an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Educational Foundations, is Professor of Dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  In addition to publishing numerous articles on choreography, her 1992 book, Modern Dance in a Postmodern World, addresses federal funding policy and its impact on the field of modern dance. In 1991 Jan co-founded the NC Dance Festival and she is a 1993 Fulbright Scholar, recipient of a Choreography Fellowship from the North Carolina Arts Council and the 2001 honoree of the NC Dance Alliance for Significant Contributions to Dance in NC. As well as choreographing forty-plus dances for her company, The Van Dyke Dance Group, she has set her work on numerous other groups including Peggy Lyman, Liz Lerman and The Washington Ballet.  Her work is noted for its dynamic energy, rhythmic precision, and being both poetic & athletic.
