The Original Desperate Housewife Miss Julie

The Studio Theatre, located downstairs from the Hillberry Theater on the campus of Wayne State University will present August Strindberg's Miss Julie January 27 - 29 and February 3 - 5 at 8 p.m.

Miss Julie is a dark, timeless tale of a young society woman who searches for her freedom in the arms of her father's valet. During the course of Midsummer's Eve, a celebration of the height of summer, this unlikely match makes its connection. Jean's charisma and magnetism are too much for her to resist. But society is not ready for her choice for an affair. The consequences and secrets revealed in one night change both of their worlds forever. Miss Julie's dark and sexual subject matter was strictly censored at the time of its original release in 1887. This still relevant play takes our contemporary audience on a journey that asks the question, 'what would you give up for the chance of love?'

The role of Miss Julie is being played by Deborah Joy Winans (Detroit). Winans is a member of the famous Winans family, pioneers in the field of contemporary gospel music. The role of Jean is being played by Henri D. Franklin (Southfield) who appeared in last season's production of Much Ado About Nothing at the Bonstelle Theatre. The role of Kristine is being played by Keara Woods (Flint) who appeared recently in The Underpants in The Studio Theatre. DChristy Houston, (Detroit) a PhD candidate at Wayne State University is directing the production.

The Studio Theatre is located at 4743 Cass Ave, at the corner of Cass and Hancock. Performances of Miss Julie are at 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, January 27 - 29 and February 3 - 5. Tickets are $9, a discounted ticket of $7 is available for students and seniors, WSU faculty, staff and alumni association members.
