Wayne State University Library System appoints New Associate Dean

Jeff Trzeciak, of Southfield, former director of Wayne State's Library Computing and Media Services, has been named associate dean of the Wayne State Library System.

"Jeff Trzeciak brings a unique ability to translate our Library System's vision into reality. He has demonstrated an excellent understanding of the part that digital materials play in today's information resources, as well as a deep appreciation of our historical materials and print collections," said Dean Sandra Yee.

Trzeciak brings more than 18 years of experience to his new post. He has worked at the Dayton and Montgomery Public Libraries, Wright State University Libraries and, most recently, the Wayne State University Library System.

"Today, Libraries are at the heart of a major transformation in teaching and learning on university campuses," said Trzeciak. "We must open our minds to new ideas, forge new partnerships and look to the future rather than the past. I intend to develop and articulate a vision for a transformed library that includes teaching and learning, scholarship, learning spaces and librarianship."

After receiving a BS in Secondary Education from the University of Dayton and a MLIS from Indiana University, Trzeciak began working in systems training support and worked his way up through various library administrative positions, establishing a record of collaboration with libraries, museums and archives. During his tenure at Wayne State, Trzeciak spearheaded several successful grant proposals including three Institute of Museum and Library Services grants that brought in over $1 million, and he was also named one of the Library Journal's "Movers and Shakers" of 2004.

The Wayne State University Library System consists of the universities' five libraries: The David Adamany Undergraduate Library, the Shiffman Medical Library, the Arthur Neef Law Library, the Science and Engineering Library, The Purdy Kresge Library and the Library and Information Science Program and UGE 1000 general education course.

Wayne State University is a premier institution offering more than 350 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students in metropolitan Detroit.
