Wrongful conviction probed

Professor Peter Henning of the Law School is quoted in an article about an investigation of two Macomb County law enforcement officials who are accused of sending an innocent man to jail on rape charges. The accused was cleared by DNA evidence after nine years behind bars. The law enforcement officials who are being investigated, a former prosecutor and a police lieutenant, allegedly offered a repeat criminal offender a deal to testify against the accused in exchange for a lighter sentence. "Did they cross the line and suborn perjury and obstruct justice? That's what the special prosecutor is going to focus on," Henning said.
