On-site admissions program lets applicants know immediately whether they have been accepted

Detroit, Mich. - For many high-school graduates and working professionals applying to colleges for admission, the long wait for a decision can feel like an eternity. But Wayne State University is taking the suspense out of admissions for the 2005 Winter Semester, by giving applicants a decision in person during Instant Admissions sessions scheduled this month:

  • Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at the Wayne County Center, 7800 Outer Drive, Detroit, 2 to 7 p.m.;

  • Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at the Macomb Center in the Macomb Community College's University Center, 33737 West Twelve Mile Road, Clinton Twp., 2 to 7 p.m.;

  • Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at the Oakland Center, 33737 West Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills, 2 to 7 p.m.

The Instant Admissions session combines instant gratification with face-to-face service: Admissions officials will meet one-on-one with applicants, review their transcripts and offer admissions decisions on the spot.

"It is a great stress relief for students," says Sylvia Stancil of Wayne State's Office of Admissions. "Most students know where they want to go to college, and this takes the pressure off early. It's also a great opportunity for local professionals to stop by and learn about the programs and opportunities we offer throughout Metropolitan Detroit."

No appointment is necessary; though, applicants are asked to bring copies of their transcripts from all previously attended colleges - and their high school transcripts if they have fewer than 12 transferable college credits - to the Instant Admissions session. Participants may bring a completed application to the session or complete an instant application at the event. An application fee of $30, payable by check or money order to Wayne State University, is required for instant admission as well.
