TechTown Appoints New Managing Director

New managing director will reinforce strength of TechTown's flourishing programs.

DETROIT, MI, November 18, 2004 - TechTown, a burgeoning entrepreneurial village located in Detroit's New Amsterdam historical district between Wayne State University's campus and the New Center Area, announced this month the selection of Marlo Jenkins as managing director. Executive Director Howard Bell says of the appointment, "We are extremely excited to have Ms. Jenkins join our team at TechTown. As we continue to build our capacity to assist our community of entrepreneurs, Marlo will be a most valuable resource. She brings a wealth of entrepreneurial expertise and training to the table."

Ms. Jenkins, a Detroit native, brings to TechTown more than thirteen years of marketing experience and strategic planning for such groups as Kellogg Company, Kraft Foods, and Ford Motor Company. Her decision to join TechTown was an easy one:
"It's simply the best thing happening in the city of Detroit," she explained. She is eager to dive in to her new role at TechTown, an organization she describes as a "collaborative and innovative place where businesses get the help they need to grow."

After receiving a BA in marketing from Michigan State University and an MBA in marketing and corporate strategy from the University of Michigan, Jenkins co-founded jazzdigital Marketing, a firm specializing in urban-flavored digital marketing solutions to organizations, corporations, and institutions. She was previously employed with the Center for Urban Innovation at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she contributed to cutting-edge technology projects involving wireless Internet access for neighborhoods, community technology on mobile phones, and on-line delivery of alternative health care.

Ms. Jenkins plays an active role in many community organizations, including the Detroit Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Wayne State University's Institute for Information Technology and Culture, the Minerva Education and Development Foundation, and the Detroit Repertory Theatre. She is also active with the National Association of Black Women Entrepreneurs.
