Wayne State dean takes the arts and communication to The Max

Dean Sharon L. Vasquez delivers address to Southeast Michigan Cultural Coalition

DETROIT - Sharon L. Vasquez, dean of Wayne State University's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, will deliver an address at the next monthly meeting of the Southeast Michigan Cultural Coalition, Thursday, November 11, 2004, at the Max M. Fisher Music Center, known as The Max, in downtown Detroit near Wayne State University's campus.

After joining Wayne State University in July, 2004, Dean Vasquez identified as a top priority the need to improve the university's relationship with the region's major arts and communication organizations. Toward that, she will speak before the Southeast Michigan Cultural Coalition about bridges she has built in the past from higher education into the community, current and future trends in the arts and communication, linkages Wayne State's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts currently has with the community and aspirations for the future to deepen existing relationships and develop new ones.

The Southeast Michigan Cultural Coalition is a group of 17 cultural institutions in Wayne and Oakland counties, convened by Detroit Renaissance, working to insure the financial health of all major cultural institutions that serve the region.

The Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts is educating the next generation of visual artists, musicians, communication professionals and professional actors and dancers. The college offers 16 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs through its five departments of Art and Art History, Communication, Dance, Music and Theatre, with students benefiting from expert faculty and state of the art resources.

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 12 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students in metropolitan Detroit.
