United Nations Foundation supports meeting of automotive and policy experts Oct. 27 at Wayne State University

Wayne State University's World Bridge is hosting a panel event titled "Future Technology: Reducing Global Oil Dependence Through Advanced Vehicles," Wednesday, Oct. 27, 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the Bernath Auditorium in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library, on the main campus. Part of "The People Speak 2004," this panel event is made possible through a grant from the United Nations Foundation.

Pressures on oil are increasing daily with production shortages occurring as demand is growing, led by countries such as China. Meanwhile, urban sprawl lengthens commutes as population growth increases the number of vehicles on U.S. roadways. Industry and policy experts will explore these issues and search for solutions. The Great Lakes IT Report's editor Matt Roush will moderate the panel discussion featuring Paul Ballew, executive director - global market and industry analysis, General Motors; John German, manager, environmental and energy analysis, American Honda Motor Co.; and Keith Schneider, deputy director, Michigan Land Use Institute.

The event, which includes light refreshments, costs $10. Admission is free for students and faculty with valid identification.

World Bridge serves as the public affairs and outreach arm of Wayne State's international programs. World Bridge builds partnerships with international organizations and global businesses and supports the university's mission of preparing globally-minded students, graduates and business leaders who can readily assume a leadership role in the world economy.
