Fireworks suspect freed; cops criticized

The collapse of the murder case against Daron T. Caldwell in the June 23 shooting of nine fireworks spectators downtown revealed a pattern of police failures. The case was dropped because DNA evidence failed. Wayne Law professor Peter Henning suggested prosecutors may have been hindered by a lack of access to police reports. "There was clearly a communication problem between the prosecutor's office and the police," said Henning.
