Clerks struggling with fraudulent voter registration forms as deadline nears

Among the record number of voter registration applications pouring in to county clerk\'s offices throughout the state are hundreds, perhaps thousands, that appear to be fraudulent, according to Michigan Secretary of State Terry Lynn Land. A close presidential race has resulted in aggressive attempts by political parties and advocacy groups to sign up new voters, particularly in counties such as Wayne, home of Wayne State University, and Washtenaw, home of the University of Michigan. Many of the workers being paid to register new voters are college students.
